Before I left for the race I felt the Lord prompt me to leave my plans open for when I got back. At the beginning this was easy to do because “after the race” was so far away. Towards the start of the second half of the race, I started to think about it more and more. I started looking for jobs, but each time I started a job search online I was reminded of the prompting from the Lord to leave after the race open. I started thinking and praying about squad leading because it’s something that I’ve wanted to do ever since I ended my semesters trip to South Africa.
I applied for the spring because that is what made the most sense in my mind but after my first interview call felt the Lord call me into deeper surrender and trust in him. Waiting until January wouldn’t really require much surrender for me. But the fall? I would really have to trust the Lord with my finances and things that I would miss out on.
After two interviews and a couple changes in hearts I have been placed to squad lead a 3 month trip to the Dominican Republic!! I am so excited to disciple people who are passionate about what the Lord is doing around the world. The 2 month trip that I went on with AIM was truly life changing and I’m excited to see lives change in front of me. I’m excited to get to join in on what the Lord is doing in these people and to see him work through this new squad and also through me.
Another exciting thing about this is that I get to lead with my dear friend Kirsten. But it gets even better than that. One of P Squad’s alumni leaders, my friend Raquel, is also mentoring this trip!! I am so so excited to work with these two and have even more time with them. Kirsten was on my second team and I have made so many fun memories with her. There will be no shortages of laughter with the two of us together. I’ve gotten to spend time with Raquel for a couple days in Guatemala as well as being roomies in Romania! She is someone that I look up to in so many ways and I am just thrilled to get more time learning from her and growing with her.
On the left is Kirsten and I in Cappadocia, Turkey. On the right is Raquel and I hitching a ride back to our village in the trunk of our friend Sole’s car.
Wow what an honor this next season will be. You might be wondering a couple of the obvious questions like when it is, how much I need to fundraise, and maybe more. I will return to Iowa July 27th and officially end my current race. I will return to Gainsville, Georgia on August 20th and remain in the states for a couple weeks of training before heading to the DR. I will need to fundraise $3,000 as a squad leader. My fundraising bar is not up yet to make a tax deductible donation through the site, but if you would like to donate through venmo you can do so at Lexy-Donath
Your prayers and financial support truly mean so much to me. I am so thankful for the support that has gotten me to the end of this race and I am so excited to continue with your help and see the Lord provide! Love you all!
