If you were ever in spanish class with me in high school, you know how poor my spanish skills are. Now that I am living in Guatemala the little skills that I do have are being put to the test. Thankfully the people in Guatemala are so patient with me as I stumble through using google translate and racking my brain for the vocabulary I learned in high school. My heart is so eager to take in and learn as much spanish as possible and I am so excited to get that opportunity over the next two months.

Our first couple of days in Guatemala we got to explore Antigua and get comfortable living at the base near Parramos. On one of these days three of my friends (Kara, Abby, and Jaden) and I set out for a day of ATL (ask the Lord). The Lord led us to many places and we ended up getting to pray over many different people throughout our day and talk to them about Jesus. I could feel the Lords hand over all of us so strongly that day.

Our last stop of the day was the most special to me. We ended up at this beautiful coffee shop that was geared towards an agroforestry project. It was owned by sustainable farmers whose goal was to transition rural communities to agroforestry to regenerate the land. Any time the Lord leads me to a place surrounding agriculture it makes me feel so seen. It reaffirms that the Lord made me with the passion for agriculture. We talked to the cashier and asked her if we could pray for her and she politely declined. My friends and I decided that in that space we would show Jesus through our actions. We ordered some coffee and sat down to write blogs and open our bibles.

As we were sitting in the middle of their demo garden we began to pray over the place and the owners. As we were praying the Lord spoke to me in spanish… don’t worry I was as shocked as you are. He said “caminar con el señor es paz” which means “to walk with the Lord is peace”. After we were done praying I immediately pulled out google translate because I wasn’t for sure if I had translated it correctly in my head. As my friend Abby began to share what she felt the Lord put on her heart she said she was reminded of the scripture in Matthew 10 where it was talking about carrying the peace of the Lord with you.

“And if the house is worthy let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.”

Matthew 10:13

Kara had mentioned something about peace as well and I was so excited to see that the Lord really had spoken to me in spanish!! I hope to return to this coffee shop and continue to minister to them through my actions. It is so cool to me that we get to live on mission every second of our lives. Our day in Antigua could have easily been completed in the states as well. I am in awe of the way that the Lord moves every day. Guatemala is so special and I am so honored to be here.

Thank you so much to all of the support that has gotten me here!! If you would like to be apart of what God is doing here in Guatemala as well as the rest of the countries we will visit over the next year I would love for you to join me in prayer. In addition to that I am currently almost 65% funded! My goal is to be at $13,000 by the end of this month. Thank you so much for following along with my journey!! So many more stories to come 🙂

Love y’all!

  3. Tks Lexy,
Coffee and the gospel go hand in hand.
I’m enough into coffee science to know it’s a powerful peice of evidence to a personal and loving creator Gods existence!
So proud of you for not allowing the rare individual who declines an offer to be prayed for, sideline and sabotage your Joy and faith that God wasn’t giving up on His prodigal pursuit of these coffee farmers/ shop owners.
